You perform the takeoff and climb up to Haleakala from 8,000'.

As we cross the channel, you will learn the use of autopilot and GPS navigation, then initiate a descent to 1,500' as we approach the Waipio Valley.  Over the next 53 nautical miles, you will hand fly the entire northern coastline and given instruction on navigation, use of the autopilot and landing procedures into Hilo airport.

 

Upon arrival, you will debrief with your instructor and take a break.

 

Afterwards, you perform the takeoff from Hilo and navigate the entire Hana side of Maui including the North Shore back to Kahului.

 

Objective: Learn basic flight maneuvers, including 2 takeoff and landings, high altitude flight, use of the autopilot, GPS navigation and overwater techniques.  Learn proper radio procedures including radio communications with Air Traffic Control.
