Is this a tour operation?

Maui Flight Academy is not a Part 135 Charter Air Carrier. We operate under FAR Part 91, our pilots are FAA Certified Flight Instructors. Our mission is to provide introductory and discovery flights in Cirrus SR22 aircraft while allowing you to actually fly the plane. We do not provide Air Charter services.

Maui Flight Academy is approved by the FAA to operate under Part 91.147 for scenic flights and commercial air tours.

If we were a Part 135 operation, then you would not be allowed to manipulate the flight controls. We offer a unique opportunity to introduce you to flying!

Many of our first time students go back home to sign up for their licenses.

Will I fly with strangers?

No. We never add a third person to the flight unless they are your guests. This makes for a very personal and private experience. Unlike a "tour" that you can buy elsewhere, this is a real flight lesson. If you are novice or non-pilot but always dreamed about flying then this is your opportunity! In one lesson, you will gain knowledge on how to takeoff, climb, cruise, descend and land.

Can I get a better price booking online instead of my hotel concierge or activity desk?

No. Our prices are the same everywhere on the island and on the internet.

If it's too windy, will you cancel?

We want you to have a 5 star experience. Sometimes that means cancelling if the winds are not conducive to safe and comfortable flight.

How much do I really get to fly?

99% of the time! And yes that means you will land it. The instructor will be behind you on the controls and only take over if need be. We know from experience how to guide you through all phases of flight, even if it is your very first time. We have been told numerous times how gratified and profound the experience is and how easily this can become a new addiction!

How old do I have to be to fly?

Kids age 8 to 88 can do it. We have a booster seat and special child vests. And yes Mom, your kid will actually fly! Make sure to read the Novice Pilot Guide.
